English Camp Information

General Information

  • Dress code is business casual or Japanese JHS casual (i.e.- a track suit).  Please refrain from wearing jeans and ripped or revealing clothing.  Business suits are not required.

  • Lunch and dinner on the first day and breakfast and lunch on the second day will be provided.

  • Bath time is communal in the Japanese style.  Private showers are not available.  Shampoo, body soap and hair dryers are provided in the bath area.  Nota Bene: Please refrain from using hair dryers in your rooms.

  • Rooms are shared with 2-3 ALTs per room.  Restrooms are communal with one per floor.

  • There is a small, general goods store which sells a very limited selection of omiyage, ice cream, stationery, and snacks.  Drink and ice cream vending machines are also available.

  • There are standard, Japanese electrical outlets in each room.

  • Please refrain from using any portable electronic game systems outside of your rooms.  In additon, please refrain from over using your smart phones in public areas.

  • The average Hi/Lo on Mt. Akagi in November is 17/5 degrees Centigrade, though somewhat colder temperatures are not uncommon.  Layers are recommended.

Travel

  • Please make arrangements in advance to be at Shin-Maebashi Station by 8AM and gather near the fountain outside the East exit.  The bus from Shin-Maebashi to Chuto will leave the station at 8:15 AM. 

  • If you will come to Chuto directly, please make arrangements to be in front of the north entrance of Chuo Secondary School by 8:30.  Overnight parking for cars and bicycles at the school is available.

  • After the English Camp, a bus will return you to Shin-Maebashi Station.  Buses usually return to Chuto by 5:30 and you can generally expect to be dropped off at Shin-Maebashi Station by 6:00. Please understand that these times may vary depending on road conditions.  If you have any important personal appointments in the evening, please make your own return travel arrangements via taxi, etc. and inform us of those arrangements at your earliest convenience.

  • Nota Bene: In the past, we have asked you to bring documents pertaining to your travel expenses.  As of this year’s camp, these documents will be prepared and submitted by your school office in advance.  You will be reimbursed for your travel expenses in cash at the camp.

Things To Pack

  • Stationery (Pens, pencils, notebooks, etc.)

  • 1 change of clothes

  • Nota Bene: Indoor shoes are no longer required at Akagi Youth House in any area except the gymnasium.  However, comfortable shoes are recommended as the facilities are quite large and very stairful.

  • A jacket or coat AND a fleece or sweater (for indoor use)

  • Wrist watch

  • 2 handkerchiefs

  • Sleepwear

  • Recommended toiletries include: toothbrush and dental paste, 2 hand towels, 1 bath towel, a plastic bag for wet items, and medicine.  

Activities

  • All activities will be planned by Chuto staff.  Please feel free to bring realia such as photos and crafts from your home country or any other personal items to share with students during meal discussions and free time.

  • You are scheduled to eat lunch and dinner on Day 1 and lunch on Day 2 with the students.  Please use this time to talk about culture, language, hobbies, and so on and enjoy getting to know our students.
